Karantamba - Ndigal

Για τον Bai Janha (Sweet Fingers) έχω αναφερθεί εδώ. Προσθέτω μόνο λίγα λόγια παραπάνω, παρμένα απο το "Press Release" της νέας δουλειάς του Αδαμάντιου Καφετζή (Teranga Beat). Ως κιθαρίστας, band leader, συνθέτης, στιχουργός ή ενορχηστρωτής, συμμετείχε σε πολλά συγκροτήματα της Γκάμπια, από την δεκαετία του ΄60 έως τις αρχές του ΄80, όπως οι Black Star, Whales Band, Fabulous Eagles Band, Supreme Eagles Band, Gambia Police, Lords Band, Alligators, Super Alligators Band, Guelewar, Ifang Bondi και Tambato. Από τα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '70 και παράλληλα με την συμμετοχή του στους Ifang Bondi, θα αφιερωθεί ακόμα περισσότερο στην έρευνα των Manding παραδόσεων και την ενσωμάτωση σ' αυτές της σύγχρονης τεχνολογίας.

Κάπως έτσι το 1982 ο Bai θα σχηματίσει τους "Karantamba International Band", ένα σχολείο για νέους μουσικούς, με αντικείμενο την κατάρτιση τους στην μουσική και τις τέχνες και την προώθηση της πολιτιστικής ανάπτυξης. Μέσα σε έξι μήνες θα κυκλοφορήσουν την πρώτη τους κασέτα "Sira Nahal Saraba", ενώ θα ακολουθήσουν άλλα δύο άλμπουμ, τα "Lady Chilail Jawara" & "Gambia Mansakunda". Κάποιες όμως από τις ηχογραφήσεις που πραγματοποίησαν δεν εκδόθηκαν ποτέ. Μία απ' αυτές έλαβε χώρα στο Club "Sangomar" του τεχνικού Moussa Diallo (βλ.εδώ), στην πόλη Thiès της Σενεγάλης, στις 16 Αυγούστου 1984 και που σύντομα θα έχουμε την χαρά να την απολαύσουμε. Εν' αναμονή  λοιπόν της νέας κυκλοφορίας του "Teranga Beat" : Karantamba - Ndigal,  που την περιμένουμε στις 5 Μαρτίου ...

"Teranga Beat proudly presents Bai Janha alias "Sweet Fingers" and his psychedelic steamroller Karantamba. Composer, arranger, guitar player of Guelewar & Ifang Bondi, Bai Janha is undisputedly the most important musician to have come from Gambia. Band leader of the groups Black Star, Whales Band, Fabulous Eagles & Supreme Eagles, founder of the group Alligators who later became the Guellewar, Bai is the one who created the unique psychedelic sound in the region of Sene-Gambia, mixing traditional compositions with Soul. This record presents Bai Janha with his last group, Karantamba, a school for young musicians, in a totally unreleased recording, recorded in Thiès (Senegal) at "Sangomar" Club the 16th of August 1984. The double gatefold LP's liner notes and CD's booklet include more information and photographs outlining all the way of the living legend's musical career and the wicked percussive rhythms and compositions of this album.
